Creating magic together

What does "Ancient Trance" mean?

For us, it means embracing cultural diversity and preserving music as a handcrafted cultural technique.

The jaw harp, one of humanity's oldest instruments, becomes a mediator between the diverse styles of a young, international music scene. Following in the footsteps of shamans, a wide variety of traditional sounds merge, leading from ancient ethnic roots to modern, ecstatic world music.

What is our vision?

As a team, we share a common vision that we bring to life through the festival. For us, it's a space for inner growth based on a circular culture whose cornerstones are appreciation, mindfulness, respect, compassion, empathy, and love. We aim to create a space where magic becomes palpable and we come together as human beings. We celebrate together, enjoying the vibrancy of being.

As a society, we are undergoing a transformation towards a truly participatory structure where every individual can develop their potential. We see ourselves as individuals in a collaborative creation process of a festival that stands for openness and peace, community and mutual respect. We all share precious time together, which we hope will be a wonderful experience for all guests, volunteers, and organizers.

How we do it

Our organizational structure is based on sociocratic circle culture, which allows for consensus-based decision-making and gives everyone a voice, regardless of their role or circle within the festival.

All festival organizers are volunteers. Most are members of Maultrommel e.V., a non-profit association based in Taucha, which provides the legal framework for the festival. The festival is organized from Leipzig.

Ancient Trance year

Much like Santa Claus and his elves feel after Christmas – and their work is done – we feel at the end of August: all materials are back in their original places, the bills are paid, the last Lost & Found items have been collected, and we are enjoying the late summer.

In October, we'll meet for a relaxed weekend to share our feedback on the past festival and discuss our hopes and dreams for the coming years. In November, we'll begin working on the first tasks related to marketing and booking – advance ticket sales and program planning will be discussed. Things will really get going in January, with the various groups and working groups meeting regularly.

In April, we're organizing a second team weekend to prepare for the current year. Depending on availability, we might also invite you to an "Ancient Friends Dance" in the park in May, or a day at the lake in June, to build anticipation. Before we head back to the Taucha festival grounds in July!
